Jamie xx - Loud Places (feat. Romy)
I know, I know, this song has been out for over a month now and has already made the rounds. I finally got around to listening to the In Colour preview that Jamie xx put out back in March and I am upset with myself that I waited so damn long. While Jamie xx is best known for his work in The xx, he is also one hell of a DJ, music producer, and remix artist. His latest solo release, In Colour, is due out June 1st but leading up to that he released his "White Label Preview" with 4 tracks from the album. Of the four tracks, "Loud Places" is by far my favourite and for a damn good reason - it is catchy as hell. Featuring vocals from Romy (i.e. another xx member), "Loud Places" is not nearly as ambient as a large part of Jamie xx's repertoire. It is powerful and driven, and when the climax hits it is an all-encompassing wave of sound that will put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step.
