Ásgeir - "Unbound"
When I had started writing this post, I was convinced that we had written about Ásgeir before. Ever since I had first heard the Icelandic native's "Torrent" over 3 years ago, I was smitten. And I wasn't the only one, as at the time (at the age of 21) he already had the best-selling domestic album Iceland had ever seen. Hillydilly had called him the "Lorde of Iceland", which was about as great a compliment in 2013 as you could give a new artist. Since then he has released his fantastic English debut album In The Silence which had a slew of fantastic singles, and now he's given us the first taste of his next album with "Unbound". Where his earlier stuff was decidedly folk, this new direction takes him down a more electronic, almost experimental road. A beautiful, cryptic road. You still get hints of where he started from, but this new sound is overwhelmingly welcome. Let's hope for more.
"Unbound" is taken from Ásgeir's upcoming album, Afterglow, due out May 5th.
