Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Can't Keep Checking My Phone

With the release date of Unknown Mortal Orchestra's third LP, Multi-Love, roughly a month away, the Portland-based group has just dropped their second single, Can't Keep Checking My Phone, a peppy psych-rock jam that is as eccentric as you would expect while still remaining pretty damn accessible to just about anyone. I say that because I just played it for a bunch of my friends (all with hilariously different tastes in music) and each one of them was bouncing their heads and moving their feet by the end. The song's futuristic intro is quickly replaced by the claps, synths, and guitar hooks that keep things going throughout the song. Then there's the chorus, "“I’m kinda busy, could you call back again? / I’m sure you’ll come back / til then / I can’t keep checking my phone.” Sound like anything you've said before? [soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/196826455" params="auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&visual=true" width="100%" height="450" iframe="true" /]
