James Vincent McMorrow - "Gone"
Let’s get all the cards down on the table - I listened to song 3 or4 times before I discovered it’s a James Vincent McMorrow track. I thought “I Should Go” was out of character for him, but now we have the heavily R&B-influced “Gone”. JVM described the song as being about the “disintegration of my relationship with myself,” and both the lyrics and tone reflect that. It’s chaotic while also filled with clarity, exemplified by lyrics like “I give less fucks than I used to / still give a lot of fucks.” “Gone” is the third JVM release of 2020 as he gears up for releasing his new album and a rather large tour scheduled for 2021 (knock on wood for that one).
