Josef Salvat - "Every Night" (VIMES Remix)
When someone release a remix, I usually have a clear favourite between the new and the original. With the recent VIMES' remix of Josef Salvat's "Every Night", I couldn't actually tell which one I prefer so I decided to write about both instead. First, the original: in it Salvat's voice overflows with emotional self-observation as he sings over basic percussion, twangy guitar, and cool doo-wop singers. This song is beautifully simple and soulful, accented by Salvat's falsetto during the chorus.
Now we cut to the remix (and make sure you listen to the original first). You will immediately notice that VIMES has weaved a completely new tapestry for Salvat's still-beautiful vocals. This remix is noticeably more pop-y that the original and almost has a Talking Heads-sound to it. The thing I love about this remix (and all other great remixes) is that, had you never heard the original, it is so well crafted that you would be forgiven for thinking it's not a remix at all.
