merci, mercy - "Fall Apart"
Whenever I see a headline about anyone who’s under the age of 40, it’s frequently talking about how “kids these days” aren’t doing anything with their lives or are just freeloaders or whatever other less-than-positive stereotype is currently in vogue. While these stories are always ridiculous and blown out of proportion, it’s still nice to discover when someone in that age demographic is creating some genuinely fantastic content. Enter Australia’s merci, mercy. At just 19 years old, she aims to be “brutally honest” in all her songs and show everyone who she really is. Her latest single “Fall Apart” does not shy away from her cynical self, and wondering why she should bother starting a new relationship when she knows it will eventually end in hurt. Her rather mellow vocals remind me of Billie Eilish somehow mixed with Charli XCX. Don’t believe me? Have a listen for yourself.
