Verdance - "Rothko" (ft. Oli Hannaford)
There’s no denying our love of Oli Hannaford, so when I heard that he was featured on a new track I could not help but be interested. Enter “Rothko” by Verdance (aka Jake Brown). Some people my be familiar with another of Brown’s aliases, Handbook, but on his new project Brown is going in a new, more “natural” direction. Speaking about the song, Hannford said
“Rothko” is about trying to comfort someone whilst not being comfortable yourself. Putting on a brave face to put someone you love at ease isn’t an easy thing, and often shouldn’t be celebrated. I wrote “Rothko” whilst in a bit of a tough and confusing place. It constantly contradicts itself much like I feel my feelings do in some situations.
I can’t (and won’t) speak for everyone, but Hannaford’s comments and feelings regarding “Rothko” are definitely ones I have first-hand experience with which makes this track all the more relatable. It’s smooth and entrancing, and one for the books. Listen below.
