Jack Garratt - "Chemical"
Every time I write about Jack Garratt, he seems to be moving further away from his initial sound and closer to what I imagine his sound is supposed to be. His latest track, "Chemical", is the latest example and his most ambitious track to date. Starting with rhythmic clapping then soon settling in with a heavy electronic beat, his distinctive falsetto voice still rises above. It creates a powerful song whose strength is in this contrast. In the latter part of the song, we take a turn and replace the electronic elements with a soulful piano solo seemingly taken from a bygone era. I'm not sure exactly where Garratt will eventually wind up, but I am more than happy with the direction he has taken so far.
